I received my grandma and grandpa Landmeier's wedding bedroom set following grandma's death. I asked my Aunts for any information or memories they might have of the furniture so as to give it more of a history or tell its story. Here are their responses:
Hi Raena!
Glad you like G/G's bedroom set....it is a beautiful set............
I don't know that I can answer any of the questions about how they got it....maybe Aunt Janet can....but I am positive it was new, was probably given to them by either of their parents (Landmeier or Harbecke). (We may have to ask Aunt Florence Harbecke that question, if Janet or Judy do not know the answer.)
Sorry about not knowing much about the bedroom set, but do know they had a 1 month honeymoon starting first to see family in Iowa, then went south to New Orleans, and on to stay with friends in Alabama, and then to Florida!
Thinking about that....they must not have had a dairy herd until after they returned! (You may have to ask your Dad about that!)
The one thing I do remember about the bedroom set was that Grandma really loved and prized it! So I am sure she is so appreciating the fact that someone else is loving it as much as she did! Grandpa is probably doing the same!
Love, Aunt Joyce
PS I do recall sitting on Grandma's bed, rocking your dad in a cradle.....
And Grandpa confined to the bed when he had the mumps
And my laying in the bed with lights low when I had the measles, so I could be close to the kitchen where Grandma was making dinner, etc....She did let me read though!
Now you have me thinking!...............That bed did have lots of great memories!
Hi Raena,
I am happy to you like G&G Wedding bedroom set. As far as I know it was a gift from, I think GG &GG Landmeier (Wilbert's parent) BUT it could be from (Bertha's parents) Maybe my MUCH older sisters will know exactly...
Did anyone else use it...no, only at the farm when we stayed over....I think Uncle Keith and I used it the most. He had to have his feet hang over, as it is only a double bed. Otherwise it was very comfortable. The scratches on the head board are from a reading light that hang over the top, and of course moved around and scratched to wood.
I am really glad that you like it and my favorite part of it is the cedar drawer...pretty neat 70 years ago. I think they got the new queen bed about the time that Brian was born 1975.....and when they moved to Hogsback Road, we had to take the window out and pass it through over the kitchen porch. The springs to not bend very well...
I am sure when you saw all the stuff they brought back it was a sad and happy time with all the memories again....That is always good...
Not sure what else you got, but enjoy it and Grandma is smiling down from Heaven at you.
Love and kisses to all,
Aunt Judy
